Mix Hunter
Interactive Installation
Mix Hunter is an arcade style shooter game built as an internal R&D showcase at For Good & Company, demonstrating creative technology capabilities to staff and invited clients. Players used a custom laser phaser to hit targets that unlocked individual channels of a music mix, racing against a timer to complete the full track.
Summary
I served as the primary TouchDesigner developer and game designer on this project, which brought together hardware, tracking, and real time visuals from multiple departments into one interactive installation. The gameplay was built around a mixing concept: shooting targets activated different channels of a mix, with a per-target timer and a level timer adding pressure across two playable levels. The project gave the team a hands on demonstration of what was possible when creative technology, audio, and game design worked together.
Solution
The phaser was a converted Nerf gun rebuilt with a microcontroller to handle the laser, trigger, and pump action events. An infrared camera tracked the phaser's aim on a transparent screen, while a white graphical layer was projected onto that same screen to create a sense of depth. An 8 foot tall LED panel behind the screen displayed the main game environment, and the full installation was housed in a truss system integrating the projector, IR camera, LED strips, and directional lighting. I built the game logic and audio reactive graphics in TouchDesigner, while a teammate composed the mixes in Max, with OSC syncing data between the two so visuals and audio stayed tightly linked throughout play.
